Day by Day of Blueboy 2010

After 8 years of closely following Blueboy and his families, we've decided to track every day this calendar year.  We know his days are likely numbered due to his age.  Hopefully we can fully record 2010.

Every picture was taken on the day shown (did not cheat).

Below is the very first picture of Blueboy from the spring of 2002.  That makes him, at a minimum, 9 years old.

After a December snow and hard freeze where Blueboy was unusually absent, we had already discounted his survival odds to around under 50-50. So it was with great excitement and surprise that he showed up on this relatively warm day.  He hung around in the front yard in the Maple tree with his wife casually eating mealworms off and on all day.    A Wren showed up to help welcome him home.

The pair also tried some back-porch feedings with the wife sitting in the Ash tree waiting for a handout.

No worries. Business as usual after a few months away.

Blueboy watched me build the greenhouse for a few hours. Ate a lot of worms with his wife in the back yard. He left in the early afternoon

As we expected back in December during the snowstorm, Blueboy showed up in the late afternoon after this heavy snow and ice. He ate worms with his wife and a Junco using the Ash tree and the fence as a launching area. The pair sat on the playhouse to keep dry.

He stayed all day with his wife and the pair ate a lot. He hung out in backyard with his wife, the House Finches, the Junco's, and a late Cardinal. They were definitely on the lookout for hawks.

Another ice day.  He was there early in the morning.   He shared the porch with the House Finches.
